Nursing Education Online

In today’s job market – and tomorrow’s – the field of nursing is one of the fastest growing occupations in the United States. Projections indicate no slowing down for the demand for qualified nurses for at least a decade to come.

If you dream of becoming a nurse but feel tied down to a full schedule of current job commitments and a busy family life, too, consider getting your nursing education online. Many highly respected educational institutions appreciate the value and flexibility of distance learning and have programs available online to meet the needs of almost everyone aspiring to the nursing profession.

The educational requirements for becoming a licensed practical or vocational nurse include just about a year of studies, which include classroom and clinical practice time. The classroom hours can be accomplished via nursing education online and the clinical hours can be taken at a location, usually a hospital, that has already been approved as a teaching site in your area by the online school.

Registered nurses can take their classroom nursing education online, too. It usually takes two to three years to complete the educational requirements to qualify to take the state exam for registered nurses but, again, the classroom work can often be done online.

Many institutions of higher learning, which offer advanced degrees in nursing, offer some, if not all, the classroom hours of nursing education online. The laboratory work and clinical practice required of these degrees must be performed in person, of course, but provisions are available via the online school to meet these educational requirements, too.

Regardless of the level of nursing education online or off that is desired, be sure that the school you select is accredited by the appropriate governing body, including the state from which the school operates. The training program offered must meet the standards established by the industry in order to qualify for state licensure.
