The field of nursing is one of diversity and strong growth projections. In fact, nursing positions make up the largest segment of the health care field and the job growth is expected to grow at a rate of almost twenty percent in the next several years.

The rapid growth in the industry is leading many employees to consider nursing continuing education programs as a means to achieve better positions in this lucrative and promising occupation. Nurses at all levels of education and employment can benefit and most likely realize job promotions and stronger careers as a result.

One really nice thing about nursing continuing education is that most people looking toward this option are already employed, mostly as nurses. The medical profession is one built on strong academic ties and education in all aspects is highly encouraged.

Because of the favorable view of the education process in this field, many employers will pay the tuition for an employee seeking higher education or will reimburse them once they can document successful completion of a related class or training program.

Depending upon current level of education, nursing continuing education can mean anything from completing the training necessary to sit for a competency examination that will lead to certification or to getting a doctorate’s degree from a university.

Some continuing education programs lead to the qualifications necessary to specialize in particular fields, such as gerontology, pediatrics, or oncology. Others choose to pursue nursing continuing education programs with the idea of becoming a nursing instructor in an academic setting or as a hospital administrator for the nursing staff.

Specialized training in a nursing continuing education program is always encouraged, if not required, when opting for the growing home health care field. Nurses specializing in fields such as surgery and emergency medical care will most likely benefit from programs addressing these specific areas.

Regardless of current level of career advancement, anyone who is currently holding a position that requires a license to practice will be required by state law to complete nursing continuing education classes on a regular basis. Requirements vary by state but all require continuing education for license renewal.
