Health and Nutrition

It has long been known that the general well-being of an individual is directly affected by his or her current health which is, in turn greatly affected by his or her nutritional intake.

Nutrition has a very important role in health. The human body metabolizes the food it consumes in order to get the nutrition it requires for its day to day function. Any lack, excess or imbalance in the nutritional intake of the body can lead to dangerous health problems.

Nutritional problems are world wide concerns. In many developing countries, the main concern is the lack of nutrition for their population. It is not unheard of to find a group of people who are barely able to exist from day to day due to the lack of nutritional food to eat. Some population groups are also consuming the wrong diet resulting in nutritional imbalance which pose a very serious health risk.

On the other hand, developed countries are experiencing nutritional problems at the other end of the spectrum. There is actually an obesity epidemic in many developed countries of the world. This trend shows a gross negligence of the population to the proper nutritional balance needed in order to keep a healthy body. This obesity epidemic has become a prime health concern for many countries and many of them are taking steps to counter the epidemic.

According to nutritionists, experts in the field of nutrition and health, the body basically needs six classes of nutrients: vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, proteins, fats and water. Each of these nutrients contribute to the healthy functioning of the body. Deficiencies and imbalances of these nutritional requirements causes poor health in the individual.

Nutrition has long been one of the primary concerns of humanity and the many upsetting trends in world nutrition is fast becoming one of the most controversial topics worldwide. The rise of a number of varied cases of malnutrition in the world population affecting major population groups instead of isolated individuals is cause for concern for many health professionals. Furthermore, the risk factors for malnutrition are currently in an upswing, causing alarm in many health sectors as to what this could mean for the overall human population in the years to come.
