Who are we?

We are a group of individuals who share a variety of interests in the healthcare field, both in Canada and the U.S. Drug policy is only one area of interest. The current debate surrounding the Canadian and the U.S. methods of health care delivery is a subject, we believe, that should engage every citizen.

For Canadians, the long respected Medicare system is showing signs of partial, if not complete, collapse. How and if the present system should be fixed is the number one issue facing Canadians today. How the Canadian government addresses these issues has enormous implications for all Canadians, not just in terms of their access to timely, effective health care services, but also for the impact government initiatives will have on the taxes they pay.

The problems facing Americans are very different from those facing Canadians. The debate continues to rage across America about how to best ensure all Americans have access to quality healthcare, without interfering with an individual's right to purchase healthcare services. More and more Canadians are looking south across the border to access timely healthcare services they cannot receive in Canada.

Canada and the United States can learn a great deal from each other about the viability of healthcare delivery systems and health policy in general. Prescription drug policies in both countries have presented unique challenges to governments on both sides of the border. This has initiated dialogue between the two countries that previously didn't exist.

It is our firm belief that dialogue is good. It is our view that quality healthcare, access to safe medications, and a shared vision about the priorities of health research and development benefit all Americans and Canadians, and hopefully one day, will create better health outcomes for all of us.
